California Competitions
The USEF Dressage Department is re-authorizing the use of alternative saddlery inspection procedures (as noted in USEF DR126) in California due to recent EHV-1 outbreaks.
The USEF Dressage Department recommends that ring stewards conduct a visual check of the horses, with no touching of the horse or any equipment. Shortly after their ride and after horses are returned to the stables and bridles removed, a steward should conduct a visual examination of bits for the required number of horses in each class without physical contact with any saddlery or the horses. It is recommended that a steward be posted in the stable area at designated times so that competitors can bring their bridles for inspection.
Please note horses from the affected state that travel to other states for competition should also be included in this category of visual inspections described above.
The USEF Dressage Department will notify competitions and officials when normal protocol for saddlery inspections must be resumed.
