Steffen Peters and Ravel Victorious Again in Del Mar CDI
Steffen Peters and Ravel were on top again in Grand Prix competition at the 8th Annual Rancho Valencia Dressage Affaire at the Del Mar Horsepark earning blue in the Olympic Grand Prix Special on Sunday with a score of 80.289 percent. Coming in second was Guenter Seidel riding Fandango to a score of 70.422. Third place went to Kathleen Raine and Breanna with a score of 70.400. Sue Blinks and Robin Hood took fourth with 69.600.
Peters and Ravel, who are aiming again to represent the U.S. in Olympic competition, were clearly ahead of the pack. They also won Saturday’s CDI Grand Prix for the Special with a score of 79.213, over 10 percentage points ahead of second-place finishers Sue Blinks and Robin Hood with their score of 68.957. Seidel and Fandango finished third with 68.234.
Peters also had Grand Prix wins with Legolas, taking the blue in both the CDI for the Freestyle with a score of 75.809 and in the the CDI Freestyle with a score of 78.225. Jan Ebeling and Rafalca took second in both with a 71.468 in the Grand Prix for the Freestyle and with a 74.800 in the Freestyle.
Peters said he was particularly pleased to see that Ravel, a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood, had enough energy on Sunday to score even higher than he had the day before.
