Joan Macartney Selected as Dressage Canada Volunteer of the Month for April

Ottawa, Ont., May 13, 2015 — Dressage Canada (DC) is pleased to announce that Joan Macartney of Manotick, Ont. has been selected as the recipient of the DC Volunteer of the Month award for April.

Joan-Macartney-HeadshotMacartney is a well-known international dressage judge and respected clinician who has devoted countless volunteer hours to the DC Officials Committee over the years.

Having only recently stepped down as Chair of the DC Officials Committee, Macartney has been instrumental in directing the forward focus of dressage officials in Canada and implementing the clarification of rules and procedures for national judges and stewards. She remains active with the Officials Committee and is focused on the educational needs of the officials.

Macartney is known for her ability to see the positive side of every situation, and for her encouragement to those new to the sport or to committee work. These attributes have helped to make her a very successful and well regarded committee chair, and past member of the DC Board of Directors.

In her professional life, Macartney was a lifelong post-secondary educator and administrator. In her judging career, she became an FEI 4* dressage judge, and was an international clinician through the FEI Challenge Tour, which provided clinic opportunities to under-represented countries, including Dubai, Greece, Turkey and Israel, as well as in South America and South Africa.

Macartney remains active as an Equine Canada and USEF Senior Dressage and Sport Horse Judge.

DC extends a sincere thank you to Macartney for her incredible contributions to dressage in Canada and around the world
